DataBeers VLC #22

Databeers València (@databeersvlc) és una iniciativa per a comunicar i difondre els beneficis i avanços en el camp de la ciència de dades d’una manera relaxada i divertida, i amb una cervesa a la mà.

International edition organized within the Summer School on Data Science at the University of València.

El programa de ponències (que en aquesta ocasió s’impartiran en anglès) és el següent:

Irene Gil (Product manager & big data / Complutense University of Madrid)
Developing data-driven products
How to use data in decision making and in the creation of a product from scratch, its benefits and consequences.

Ramón Álvarez-Valdés (Operations research / University of València)
A container full of problems: How to manage container terminals more efficiently
Containerized trade is a key element in global economy and has grown exponentially in recent years. Efficient management in container terminals requires solving large and complex optimization problems, which we will outline in this talk.

Germán Sanchis (Computer science / Sciling)
No data. Where is my beer?
A common saying in the AI industry is that having access to a large amount of data is mandatory for launching any AI initiative. Under this perspective, companies who attempt to lever AI without having piled up large amounts of data are set up to failure. But we are seeing how AI is getting democratized precisely in environments where generating labeled data is extremely costly by relying on big data. Big data generated by others, and processed by others.

Lara Pérez-Felkner (Education and Sociology / Florida State University)
Transforming opportunity to support STEM success for all
Let’s review data evidences that show how institutions and policy makers can lower the barriers and broaden participation in STEM fields across genders who are from underserved and underrepresented communities.

+ «Heat is here!». Acid Queen Dj (Music lover & Old School Dj)
Let’s celebrate the Mediterranean sweltering moist heat with a small selection of hot songs to welcome the summer, while we desire it passes as quick as possible.

Ho organitzen el col·lectiu Databeers VLC, l’Espai Ciència de l’Octubre CCC i l’Escola Tècnica Superior d’Enginyeria (ETSE-UV) de la Universitat de València.
